About Dongyanshan National Forest Recreation Area

Dongyanshan National Forest Recreation Area is located in Toucheng Township, Yilan County, Taiwan. The area is part of the broader Xueshan Mountain Range foothills and is known for its dense forests composed of subtropical and temperate broadleaf species. The elevation ranges from approximately 200 to 600 meters, creating a cool climate that nurtures diverse flora and fauna, including many bird species and native wildlife. Historically, the area was used for logging, but it has since been rehabilitated into a recreational forest park that protects the ecological environment while offering visitors a natural retreat. Key attractions within the forest include scenic hiking trails, well-maintained boardwalks, and the historic Dongyanshan Waterfall, which is a popular site for photography and nature appreciation. The park also features themed areas such as a bamboo forest and several bird-watching towers. Visitor appeal centers on the serene atmosphere, easy access from nearby urban centers, and opportunities for educational nature walks that reveal the region's biodiversity. Picnic areas and resting pavilions further enhance the visitor experience, making Dongyanshan an ideal destination for day trips, family outings, and eco-tourism activities. The forest is particularly popular during the warmer months when the weather is ideal for outdoor activities and the greenery is at its most vibrant.
